The Bodensee at the far western edge of Austria is with around 550 km² the third largest lake in Central Europe and borders 3 countries: Germany, Switzerland and the Austrian province of Vorarlberg. Even the capital of Vorarlberg, Bregenz, is located directly on the shore of that lake. Every year, there are the famous Bregenzer Seefestspiele taking place at the Bodensee with an auditorium that partly protrudes into the lake. Bregenz is an attractive, small city of around 30.000 inhabitants and always worth visiting – whether for cultural reasons or a simple city break.
