The Pongau is one of 5 parts (the so called Gaue) of the province of Salzburg. The region is identical with the district St. Johann im Pongau (regional capital). Also in the Pongau there are very famous touristic villages like Altenmarkt, Bad Gastein, Bad Hofgastein (Gasteinertal), Flachau, Eben, Bischofshofen, Radstadt and St. Johann. Most villages are striving both for winter- and summer tourism with excellent opportunities for skiing, cross-country skiing, hiking, cycling and many attractions like the popular Liechtenstein-Klamm.
