The Südweststeiermark is located – as its name suggests – in the south west of Styria (and its capital Graz). It consists of the 2 political districts Leibnitz and Deutschlandsberg (which are regional capitals). The landscape is in many ways reminiscent of Tuscany in Italy – also in the Südweststeiermark wine production is very important – specifically white wine – with one exception of the special Rosé wine “Schilcher” (those who don’t like it rather compare it with vinegar because of its dryness). A visit of the breeding farm for the famous Lipizzaner (Lipizzanergestüt Piber), the oldest culture horse breed in Europe (originally bred in the 16th century in Lipica in Slovenia) is highly recommended.
