The Weinviertel is located in the north east of Lower Austria. As its name suggests, wine production is one of the most important economic factors of the region. In fact, with 14.000 wine farmers and almost 14.000 ha of vineyards it is Austria’s biggest wine-growing area, especially for Grüner Veltliner.

The landscape is dominated by gentle hillsides, almost every view is containing the vineyards. Famous villages are Stockerau, Retz, Korneuburg and Deutsch-Wagram. Hiking and cycling are very common activities, also in the Weinviertel you can find romantic castles like Burg Kreuzenstein, castle Eckartsau or castle Grafenegg with the recommended open air festival for classic music.
