The Dachstein is referred to as the highest mountain in Upper Austria (around 3.000 m). Whereas the Dachstein Region including the village Schladming is usually referred to as just the Styrian part of the region in the south of the Salzkammergut. Also the Ramsau is seen as part of this region. Since the world championships in the downhill race were held in Schladming (and even before), Schladming has become a real hot spot for skiing tourism. Also the village itself is quite charming. But also in summer time these hot spots are usually booked up. The Dachstein itself with its viewing platforms on its peak is an interesting day trip attraction for the summer time.
