The Ennstaler Alpen belong to the Northern Kalk Alps, however, its southern part is already assigned to the so called “Grauwackenzone” in Styria, only a small part is part of Upper Austria. The most famous part of the Ennstaler Alpen is the “Gesäuse”, where the river Enns breaks through the Alps. The best known villages are Admont, Liezen, Leoben, Trieben, Trofaiach and Windischgarsten. The area is suitable for selecting beautiful hiking tours.
