Gerlos is referring to both a valley (that is part of the Zillertal) as well as a village as well as an alpine pass in the district Zell am Ziller (the second main village) which is belonging to the province Tyrol. The so called Zillertal Arena (from 1.300 – 2.500 m above sea level) is the biggest skiing area in Zillertal with around 150 km of ski slopes. Summer attractions (apart from conventional cycling and hiking tours) are for instance a fun park with high ropes course and a summer coaster run. Not far away are the famous Krimmler waterfalls, Europe’s biggest waterfalls, with a height of 380 m the fifth highest waterfalls in the world. However, they are already belonging to the Salzburger part of the Hohe Tauern.
