The Tennengebirge belongs to the Northern Kalk Alps and is located in the province of Salzburg near Bischofshofen. Its villages are not identical with the ones in the Tennengau. The most famous villages Werfen and Werfenweng are part of the Pongau region, not the Tennengau. The region is popular for its exciting hiking tours (with its most famous mountain, the Hochkönig), also noteable is the “adventure castle Hohenwerfen” with a birds of prey attraction.
